Shaping Meaning- Capturing a Moment in Time

This Wiki site was created for a unique high school program in New Zealand,  a center for gifted and talented students in the arts, Te Manu Aute. Funded by the Ministry of Education's Special Projects Initiative New Zealand school officials developed a Secondary Education Pathway.  On-demand lesson plans entirely accessible by the internet. These lesson plans support the NZ curriculum putting the student at the center of the learning.

In collaboration with Mark Dashper, the New Zealand high school teacher our graduate Digital Media teacher assigned our class to create a lesson plan that could have the possibility of becoming part of Dashper's curriculum. The theme was to be focused around silhouettes and interpreted into a set of two lesson plans that would help the students explore how silhouettes shape meaning.

Inspired by the the short film of  'Pas de Deux,' 1967 by Norman McLaren http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHQIfPbeoBw, and the art show 'Body of Motion' by artist Peter Jansen, I have developed two lesson plans that capture a moment in time. Through the introduction of these two different works of art students will be inspired to create a composite of silhouettes capturing a series of motions. Fulfilling Jansen's idea that these newly created abstract designs of the composited silhouettes  "capture sequences of human movements in space and time".

I really like this idea. I look forward to watching it take form.
